Considering the plot for our film is focused around the mental
breakdown of a family and especially the housewife. We decided
a mix of surrealist landscapes which appear several moments throughout the
opening. When looking up examples of surrealist cinema I became intrigued
by the works of David Lynch, specificlly his earlier works such
as Eraserhead. I found the use of abstract and surrealist
work in Lynch's films effective, but pretentious at best. Deciding there should be a contrast between the real and the subconsious world was a factor which needed to be set it stone, therefore I looked into parks and feilds to take photos. I feel the less cluttered and natural, empty space of feilds created a simple metaphor
for the mind, especially a mentally declining one.
In addition, I went into depth looking into changing the quality of images to use digital artifacts to create strange movements/images onto the frame.
When taking photos in this area I noticed the ground was crumbley and sunk when stepped on. The dying grass and ground acted as another good metaphor which symbolises the deteriation of the mind. When learning to edit during post production we plan to edit the colour of these locations to look more dream-like.
With this location I really liked the sunrise lighting, hopefully when filming we'll have the same style of natural lighting for when shooting these sequences. The sprawling feild in this specific location could easily be used to create a kenophobic atmosphere to these surrealist locations.
